CONSCIOUS CRONE - Shama Beach A performing artist who is inspired and moved by stories of the earth and the ancient ones, Shama Beach has done performance work with myths and legends throughout her life. A New York City actor and dancer for many years, her spiritual journey has nonetheless beckoned her to use the world as her stage. She settled in New Mexico 20 years ago, working with expectant mothers to celebrate pregnancy with unique birthing rituals such as the one centred around a canopy of yarn, woven in prayer and chant. She has also lived at the Ram Dass Ashram in New Mexico. Her portrait features hands set in a reading posture. Shama lives her life faithfully reading from the script within, directed by a strong sense of the community around her, and an intense joy for story and performance. She has a gift for crone stories, which are faithfully punctuated with her infectious cackling laughter. "I
have felt the swaying of the elephant's shoulders, and now you want me
to climb on a jackass? Try to be serious."
